The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia presented Neuroeconomics and Financial Decision Making: Foundations and Applications in New Domains on Tuesday, August 6. The symposium touched on the origins, philosophy, development, and research methods of neuroeconomics and how they can be applied to the study of financial decision making, monetary policy, bank supervision, and regulation. Guest speakers included Gregory Samanez-Larkin, Assistant Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University; Colin F. Camerer, Robert Kirby Professor of Behavioral Finance and Economics at the California Institute of Technology; Camelia M. Kuhnen, Professor of Finance at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill; Vinod Venkatraman, Associate Professor in Marketing and Associate Director of the Center for Neural Decision Making at the Fox School of Business at Temple University; and Joseph W. Kable, Baird Term Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia Fed President Patrick T. Harker provided opening remarks.
